Each time the way a building engages in dialogue with its surroundings is carefully considered and defined, always with opportunities for improvisation in mind. Through its transformation the project  aims to make a meaningful difference at all times – a strong improvement for the building, the place, the neighbourhood, the village, the city…

Spatial experience and atmosphere

The spaces in which we spend our time influence us greatly, often unconsciously. Therefore our architecture seeks to maximize spatial experience and atmosphere in every design. Special attention is devoted to the materiality of spaces, their mutual relationships, and their interaction with the exterior.

Depth versus innovation

For innovation, Van Halewyck & Marco Architects also looks to combinations of established architectural strategies (such as rhythm, scaling, inversion, sculpture, texture, light, shadow, proportion, contrast, etc.) and their confrontation with the specific qualities of each project. This approach, together with a sensitivity to context, results in projects with their own identity – not in projects defined by a recurring style.

The Client

Naturally, the client is the central figure throughout the entire design and construction process. Clear communication throughout the process reveals where particular importance lies and where the designer can support the client in their search. Attention to comfort and the realities of everyday use  is equally crucial.

Sustainability and budget

We continuously follow innovations in building techniques and materials so that we can make well-founded choices that are both ecologically and economically relevant. But sustainability also means building for the long term, with an eye for maintenance, flexibility, and lifespan.
The budget is not a limitation but a framework within which we design creatively and effectively. Transparent cost monitoring is essential to achieving a strong project and a satisfied client.
