Renovation house BZ
Location: Mortsel, Belgium
Client: Private
Stage: built
Date: 2015 - 2017
The large extension of the modernist house of the thirties stays true to the original style of the house while showing a clearly contemporary vision. Where possible the renovation improves the details of the existing building to make an even more consistent and elegant architecture. New differences in floorheights and ceilings are introduced alongside large openings, cantilevering floors and roof terraces, bringing a new dynamic to the house.
Inside, more living space and bedrooms are created for a family with children and a home office. The floor height of the new spaces is sometimes risen to pull light deep inside the house and to create a generous spatial feeling. In one place, the structure in a ceiling with oak beams is revealed above a floor reminding béton ciré. Elsewhere old fishbone patterns are repeated in the floor to create a warm atmosphere.
