Beer Experience Centre De Koninck
Location: Antwerpen, Belgium
Client: De Koninck
Stage: 2nd prize
Date: 2014
For this experience center a multi-disciplinary approach was a prerequisite up to the point that the boundaries between architecture, product design and landscaping are blurred.
At the core of the project is a new user-flow that takes the visitors around the whole building, including the shop and the interactive experiences, while limiting the necessary locations for supervision to a single counter.
Walls are punctually demolished, bothering steel structures are taken away and others newly constructed. In the middle of the main space of the old brewery a new giant brewing barrel catches the attention. It is the heart of the experience center where on the ground floor you can learn how to tap various beers and on the first floor people enjoy specific combinations of different food and beers.
In each of the old recuperated silo's modules are installed like the "Milling Journey", where the visitor can interactively experience the process of brewing beer. When they finally arrive on the upper floor they can see the history of the place through the "Retroviewers" that show three-dimensionally how exactly the hall evolved over time.
The project was finally awarded 2nd prize and was designed in close cooperation with Bundl and Landschaap.
