Extension row house DV
Location: Mortsel, Belgium
Client: D. De Weyer & L. Verhaert
Stage: built
Date: 2011 - 2013
The existing house has an impressive facade on the street side and plenty of space for a growing family. But the views to the garden are limited and the later additions to the main volume need renovation.
To open up the house to the back, the lower addition is removed and replaced by an extension over the full width of the terrain. Sunlight is drawn in deep into the house by the recessed skylights that seperate the new facade from the older part of the building and so intensify the spacial experience.
On the first floor the bathroom and dressing are remodeled while keeping the main structure intact. The new finishings with mosaic tiles, wood and white lacquered surfaces lend these rooms a warm and light feeling.
The facades of the extension and the renovated parts are finished with white stucco, uniting the old and the new.
